reality bites

Nowadays all of us want to have a degree.
The dream of all parents is their children should have a career.
When I think about it, I always remember a German industrial man I knew in a classmate’s house.
They were a large wealthy family of eleven and at that moment the five older sons were studying in some kind of University
The German was horrified about that. He told to the father in a perfect Spanish that this was a terrible mistake.
The father of my classmate told him everybody in Spain was trying to give this kind of education to their children, and the German was more and more horrified.
I can’t remember the total explanation but the idea: A healthy society needs people graduated in intermediate craft degrees not only university doctors : Technicians, mechanics, farmers, electricians, carpenters.
I remember thinking he was right, and I still do.
I know it's not so easy, I know.
Because in our society, a university degree is synonym of culture and that is a half truth: I have to recognize that I know narrow-minded students and very cultivated and open-minded electricians.
Since then, a lot of changes have happened in our society. For example, nowadays there are a lot of recognized intermediate studies and they are working successfully.
I think it’s just what he meant.
What do you think: Was the German right?

Hi Butterfly!
All of us know people with lot of knowledge but without nothing interesting in their mind and people who don't have degrees and are fantastic in their jobs and have a lot of things to explain.
On the other hand we can remember people like Einstein who was not a very good student ;)
If I had a child I would like he/she chose something that she/he loves. If people were doing whatever they want and love the world will be better.
Have a nice weekend !!

It is a danger to spereotype! So I'd say that people should do as they think, as they feel, as they like. If they enjoy being electricians that's fine. I myself wanted my daughters to have a degree. I fought for that, so when time to go to university arrived they did not question anything, they just chose what they wanted to do and got their degrees. They are both working in their field, with problems and difficulties, but happy!

Let's have a look at your language now:

-The dream of all parents is their children SHOULD have a career.

-and AT that moment the five older sons were studying...

-in a healthy society it has to be intermediate rank not only University degrees (NOT CLEAR WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY, YOU SHOULD TRY TO REPHRASE THAT!!)

-I know IT is not so easy,

-A university degree is A SYNONYM of culture.

-I have to ADMIT that (I THINK YOU MEAN "ADMIT" FOR "RECONOCER". YES?)

-What do you think. WAS the German right? OR, DO YOU THINK THE GERMAN WAS RIGHT?

I have read your comment because it was sent to me before you deleted it. You can always add more lines to your posts if you wish. Don't worry about the mistakes. Your English is quite acceptable. Pay attention and you won't make any mistakes! I'm sure!
